Heritage and Innovation ABOUT THE OPENHAND
The College of The Openhand is in essence, a forum which invites and encourages masters and experts of the various martial arts and other relevant arts / sports to interact, share knowledge and be recognised for their contribution and inspiration to current and future generations of OPENHAND enthusiasts and practitioners. For Example, “Can the breathing skills of a trumpet virtuoso enhance the balance and rhythm of a karate fighter?”

There are a significant number of great exponents of the Openhand, alive today whose valuable knowledge and good reputation may well be lost to the world, unless something constructive is done to bring this presently fragmented world of Martial Arts and related disciplines into a unified position.

TAKE HOME VALUE
The Martial Arts and related disciplines have immense “take home value”, particularly in today’s high tech society where minimal movement is the order of the day with computers; cars; television and appliances doing most of our movement for us. The result : a growing generation of fat, frustrated drug dependant folk.

THE ANTIDOTE
Technology will be with us for life. We need it but we also need to get our muscles and minds moving by doing activities which benefit us optimally. We need to express ourselves, not be expressed! OPENHAND ARTS are highly beneficial if one selects: -

  • The Art that suits your particular needs, body type, age and psyche.
  • The right instructor or organisation to train you in the most satisfactory way to achieve your particular needs and goals.

For example, your need may be to have a healthy and fit body. Another person may wish to compete and yet another may want self defence skills. Thus the College of the Openhand aims to promote and clarify the existing arts, and to introduce to you the various Masters and their skills.

WHAT DOES OPENHAND MEAN?
You have noticed that the words “OPEN and HAND” are united as one word. Karate means Empty Hand, whereas OPENHAND embraces not only KARATE but other arts and sciences such as judo, jujitsu, grappling, physical therapy etc. The common factor linking all of these is the philosophy of no weapons – no technology but ones open hands, feet, mind and heart. The art of the OPENHAND encourages it’s adherents to develop their inner resources over and above their outer extensions. The OPENHAND is about creativity and innovation, the two essential life-giving components.

The College encourages us to open up, reach out and : - Take From The Past – Create In The Present - Give To The Future!
